About Us

The Illawarra Model Aero Club has operated in the Wollongong area since about 1966 and we have operated from our present site since 1987.

The flying field is available for members’ use seven days a week during daylight hours...The Club has about 90 members with a diverse range of interests.

The flying field is available for members’ use seven days a week during daylight hours however internal combustion powered models must not be flown before 0900 hrs because the site is a noise sensitive one.

The Club operates a training scheme to teach new members to fly.

Members are not permitted to fly unsupervised at the site until they have passed the MAAA Bronze Wing test.

An instructor is rostered on each Sunday morning to teach beginners with internal combustion powered aircraft how to fly...An instructor is rostered on each Sunday morning (except when organized Club events are scheduled) to teach beginners with internal combustion powered aircraft how to fly.

Instruction for electric powered aircraft or helicopter is by special arrangement.

The Club has members with an interest in electric powered models, helicopters, pattern, scale aerobatics, glider, control line, free flight and sport models. Members can benefit from the wide range of experience of these modellers.
